Since they are loving the success of its twentieth series, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is vowing to become an even bigger hit and has plans to extend the series until November. As such, I’m a Celebrity producers are regularly scouting for contestants to fill the contract for seasons 21 and 22. If this year’s cast keeps everything we saw in the previous, not to mention the cringeworthy and off-putting, experience of several contestants (remember Biggins, Judah Friedlander, Frankie Dettori and Natalie Cassidy?), then producers must come up with some seriously entertaining cast.
During his new book, Laugh-Out-Loud Comedians on TV and Radio (out May 7), Richard Madeley revealed one very surprising contender for the part!
“They are constantly looking for people to do the show. I’m a Celebrity is the richest show on TV now so the money is certainly a factor,” he said.
Turns out Madeley is, in fact, wanted by producers, but he does have one problem – he doesn’t want to do it.
Madeley said the big factor in his refusal to take part in the show is the lack of screen time for male comedians.
He said they have their shows to work on, so should stay at home. He said he is not one of them because of his funny fellow contestants.
“I did say if they gave me all the time in the world to do the show, it wouldn’t do me any harm. I may as well stay at home,” he said.
The 60-year-old former This Morning co-host said he doesn’t like reality TV.
“I know the reason they employ celebrities – it’s entertainment, and that’s why I wouldn’t do it – because it’s so very serious sometimes that you lose your good sense of humor,” he said.
